Pelvic Health

“I didn't know there was physical therapy for that!”
This is a common statement we hear from our patients. If you are unfamiliar with Pelvic Health Physical Therapy, YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Pelvic Health Rehab is a specialized field of physical therapy that focuses on musculoskeletal conditions of the pelvic floor.

One in three women will experience a pelvic floor disorder (PFD) in her lifetime. PFDs occur when women have weakened pelvic muscles or tears in the connective tissue, which may cause pelvic organ prolapse, bladder control problems, or bowel control problems. Pelvic floor dysfunction is not just a women’s disorder, men and children can be affected as well. Many patients with female urologic and pelvic floor disorders may delay seeking medical treatment, as they may feel embarrassed and uncomfortable in discussing their condition. For women the most common PFD issues such as pelvic pain & incontinence can be detrimental to mental, physical and social health, interfering with one’s lifestyle and enjoyment. However, the good news is that you can be helped with our Pelvic Health Rehab!

Current evidence supports Pelvic Health Physical Therapy as an important component in treating PFD such as urinary incontinence, bowel dysfunction, pelvic pain, pelvic organ prolapse and more. Research shows Pelvic Health Physical Therapy is a successful conservative treatment option that does not involve surgery, invasive procedures, and medications. In fact, pelvic floor dysfunction is a very treatable condition, usually through a combination of physical therapy treatment techniques. Importantly, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO LIVE WITH PFD!

At NWPT, our highly trained and compassionate therapists understand the difficulty an individual may experience while trying to manage pelvic pain and incontinence, which can affect every aspect of life, from one's level of physical discomfort to their emotional health. Our therapists have specialized training in pelvic health and pelvic therapy, and hold Certificates of Achievement in Pelvic Physical Therapy; Pregnant and Postpartum Physical Therapy from recognized institutions.
